Modjeska Peak via Maple Springs OHV Trail was the destination of choice for my son Alec and I. Modjeska Peak, which makes up part of the saddle in Saddle Back, starts out at Maple Springs with old black top which winds through a fairly green and lush area and steadily climbs. Later it turns into a fairly rough dirt road and near the peak it gets rocky. There are big drop offs once you get up aways and it is just one lane. Lucky for us when we did meet a few vehicles we were near a spot that we could squeeze by. We just back down a ways.

My 17 year old son is stoked on OFF-ROADING, and although my main reason to get the Toyota 4 Runner TRD Pro was basically to be able to access trailheads for hiking and backpacking that I would otherwise miss out on. But especially with Alec researching 4 Wheeling, and Overlanding and being really excited about this new endeavor I have to say as a stand alone activity it is growing on me. Having this beautiful rig and then the thought of scratching it and knocking it around is something that I have to get used to. I was told by a Jeep owner that until you get your first scratch you don’t really own it yet. I suppose it is a right of passage. Of course there is the fact that one bad move and you could be far worse off than a “pinstripe” down the side.

Up on top we enjoyed super views of Orange County and in the other direction the panoramic mountains toward the Inland Empire.

Watch Alec and I in action on the PBTA YouTube Channel.
Alec enjoying the view for the top “King of the Mountain”. It was his last hurrah before heading back to school.
Just getting our tires dirty for the first time on our own.
Go from the weekday grind, to weekend gravel.

Thanks for joining my son Alec and I as we found ourselves ‘Pursuing Balance Through Adventure’ OFF-ROAD and getting all four wheels full of dirt as we climbed our new 4 Runner TRD Pro up to Modjeska Peak for the First Time on our own. Super fun Father/Son time together. For more super fun, as we explore this new 4×4 world, stayed tuned by these simple tasks: LIKE, COMMENT, FOLLOW and SHARE. If you like hiking and backpacking and other outdoor adventures in nature than checkout the menu above each location is a separate website and thus needs to be FOLLOWED independently. You need a trucker hat such as the one in my video… gotcha covered, literally, just go to SHOP APPAREL for top quality adventure wear. We all need to get a little Balance into our lives and throwing up a trail of dust, traipsing along a washboard, rock strewn road might be just the things to put things back in order and cut loose after a long week at the office.

Happy Trails-

Roger Jenkins

      1. We really enjoyed it. We knew the clouds would be in when we got to the top but still a great time. Looking forward to many more adventures.
